Nestled in Ichijo-dori, Kyoto Soba serves traditional noodles with a twist.
Ichijo Dori is Kyoto’s yokai street (yokai meaning ghost or monster) where each shop has it’s own yokai mascot created by the owners to celebrate these odd creatures prevalent in folklore of the region.
Kyoto Soba’s mascot is a kasa-obake, a one eyed, one legged umbrella demon. The idea of everyday objects such as umbrellas or brooms being imbued with spirits stems from folktales where children were told to take care of these household items, otherwise they would come back to haunt them if treated poorly.
Kyoto Soba puts a fun twist on a traditional, delicious favourite and helps make Ichijo-dori a must visit location for visitors to Kyoto interested in folklore and legends as well as delicious noodles!
